How many categories of wardrobe items do you own?
What are some of your must-haves?
We'll be taking a unique approach today, to assist you with better understanding what your personal style is.
I've shared some of the images of my capsule wardrobes in the previous posts, and you may have thought how little my inventory looks, or where are other common items that you'd see elsewhere, but not in mine.
Let's take a look at my capsule wardrobes again, I do live in a city with 4 different seasons.
You may notice that:
My tops are all long sleeves.
There're no skirts.
There're no colorful items.
No hoodies.
Here is my 2018 all year work/everyday capsule wardrobe.
On display are my work/everyday clothes, and other items like undies, socks, pjs are in the drawers.
(right side belongs to my husband, so this makes me only the 2nd most minimal person, lol)
and you're correct.
Short sleeves, colorful items, and skirts, are my non-must-have wardrobe items.
Before I had built my capsule wardrobe, I used to have those items, and it was during my downsize process, that I decided to completely go 0 inventory on those items.

Here is my comfy capsule wardrobe.
They serve multiple purposes - additional layers on cold days, pjs, and/or workout.
I intentionally selected neutral tones so everything goes everything, and in case I'm wearing under my work clothes, they won't create unnecessary color clash.
During my downsizing process, I was able to make logical analysis, and note that the non-must-have items were my least frequently worn options, and they still sat in my wardrobe. It's like paying storage/property tax, for the things that I don't use, which meant that I was at a net loss:
Stress/cost from the time/space was exceeding the Significance of owning the just-in-case/less frequently worn items
Stress > Joy = +Stress
In other words, when I flip stress and joy, then my outcome becomes joy, so it's like net profit:
Joy > Stress = +Joy

Here is my work outfit capsule for 2019.
More women's-wardrobe-like than my comfy clothes, but still simple and calming.
To answer why my non-must-haves:
My tops are all long sleeves:
Logic ⇒ I wear long sleeves even in summer to protect my skin from sun.
No skirts:
Logic ⇒ Since I wear pants most of the time, and if skirts are just another option for clothing on my lower body, then I can go with either just pants or skirts. Since skirts aren't feasible during winter, I chose to have pants only.
There're no colorful items:
Logic ⇒ To make outfit pairing easier, and in a way identify/build my personal style.
No hoodies:
Logic ⇒ I used to wear them during school years, and almost never since I started working.
I hope this will be a guidance for you to find out what your non-must-haves are, not to follow or copy (but you're more than welcome to if you'd like!) in order to make downsizing easier, because everyone has a different taste.
Stay tuned for more tips!
