You might have heard about intermittent fasting.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not about to start a topic about weight loss, but it will become part of the process because it'll happen naturally as a result of the fasting process.

I first wanted to change my diet, because despite of my average in BMI, my stomach was always bulgy when I wasn't pregnant, with regular meals, and I had a feeling it's because I consume quite a lot of carb at each meal, so I wanted to test out what happens if I lowered carb intake.

It was also then that I was also listening to health / history audiobooks, and learned that our bodies are actually very much still like our ancestors from the stone-age / Paleolithic periods, and obviously they didn't have as much access to food/carb back then compared to now, which means whatever I'm consuming today could be more than my body actually needs. I'm sure a lot of us also have heard or are practicing similar diets such as Paleolithic diet or  Ketogenic diet.

While it's totally totally ok to enjoy delicious meals (we're all entitled to it because we've evolved and now have so many wonderful choices from all over the world!), the goal of these diet/fasting practices are usually to eat based on what our body truly needs.

We're just shifting our focus to think that, if our ancestors could survive each day with what they were able to hunt, gather, and farm, then we can probably do the same. This is more like a learning process for us to get to know our bodies, and what food does/provides to us, in terms of nutrition and energy.

So my first step to this practice was to go low on carb, while also starting a workout routine to build a strong body for long term benefits.

This picture shows the progress that happened in a year.

Note, the start was postpartum, and the process was low carb 16/8 intermittent fasting + routine workout.

This is just my personal experience, and I'm not saying for everyone to follow the same steps, but rather display my change as a proof that our bodies can really change through these practices. If you want to give it a try, do it based on your comfort level.
