In the previous few posts, I shared my logical methods in downsizing different categories of wardrobe items.

Wardrobe 🌷 8: Downsizing shoes

It all began with an ordinary setup anyone would have in their home. We had a closet, and clothes hung on the bar or tucked in the drawers.

I purchased this closet about a year prior (2018) to taking the Before picture (2019), and was prepared to use to its full extent.

The larger compartment was for me, and the smaller section for my husband. (The dimension was designed like that, and I did expect to have more clothes, but it looks like we had about the same amount.)

While on my maternity leave in 2019, I was charmed by the Magic of Tidying Up, by the famous Marie Kondo, and my life was indeed forever changed just like how her book is titled.

Link to the "American" version of this book, lol

With KonMari's concept and my personal logical methods, I was able to downsize not just my clothes, but a lot (probably 30 card boxes full) of household items, and experienced a kind of unnamable freedom I had never felt before.

It was eye-opening, enlightening, and refreshing.

What happened next, was unexpected and funny at the same time.

Here is the before picture, taken in 2019.

We had a decent amount of clothes in there.

For closets, I usually either go for Ikea or Closet Maid ones, to keep all the furniture tones unified with white.

And after downsizing my way for a few months, it turns out that I was no able to fit all the remaining clothes in the built in closet (gray arrow), and no longer even needed the closet.

The closet open closet was moved to my kids room, since we went from having 1 child to 2 around this time, so this bigger closet could hold clothes for both of them, compared to the previous one designed for 1 child. So everything actually worked out perfectly.

And here is the after.
(I didn't know what to do with the bare wall, so the bag and shirt are just hung there for picture taking purpose lol)

With the closet now gone from this spot, we now had extra space, and it felt great.
This meant more room, especially for my kids to play with.

This process happened to take place in 2020, when stay-home life started, so having more space at home was definitely helpful.

And this is what takes us to what we see in:

Wardrobe 🌷 3: Before & After 2019 - 2021

So this marked the start of my official Capsule Wardrobe life - - it helped me identify my personal style.
